Founder Carl E. Smith runs a very clean, very well lit gallery space and holds exhibits for both local and international contemporary fine artists. The space is located on 711 Mateo St. in downtown Los Angeles (near 7th St.).
Exhibiting now, from July 25th through September 12th, “I’m Already Dead In Dog Years” features some of the newer works by Easton Miller.
We actually stumbled into the place just a few hours before the opening reception and Carl was very welcoming to introduce us to the exhibit. Of the many pieces that are on the first wall, you can only imagine the artist having a hard time deciding what pieces to install. There has to be way more of where these 8x10 “Portraits of Circumstance” came from. The rest of the gallery holds larger works done by Easton that are consistent with a strong emphasis on texture and patterns beautifully composed with mixed media.
Whether if your stopping by Artists & Craftsman Supply around the corner or are around the Arts District or at the local breweries, CES Gallery is definitely worth the visit next time you’re in downtown.
